Kidoodle.TV Review: Kid-Friendly Screen Time (Sponsored)

Disclosure: I participated in a Blog Blast program on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Kidoodle.TV. I received a promotional item and a free trial as a thank you for participating.

It’s no secret that I let my kids watch TV. We don’t have cable, so we depend on internet streaming services to bring entertainment in our home. I’ve become increasingly frustrated with my limited abilities to censor the TV my children can watch as well as the amount of screen time they receive each day.

That’s why I was excited to review Kidoodle.TV. It’s a whole new ball game for parents looking to grab five minutes (or more!) of peace and quiet. Kidoodle.TV is a child-specific television streaming service. Whether your kids watch online or on your iPad, you can tailor their TV viewing down to each individual child (up to five kids). You can limit their time allowed each day (awesome!), you can filter shows based on age, and my favorite feature; you can prohibit any specific show you don’t want your child watching! These controls are password protected, so even your tech genius kiddo can’t switch them around. Kidoodle.TV offers a bright, children-friendly interface that is easy to navigate so you can sleep on the couch do the dishes for an uninterrupted five or more minutes!

Kidoodle.TV Giveaway

You can try Kidoodle.TV for free for the remainder of December! No credit card required. Starting Jan. 1, Kidoodle.TV is a mere $4.99 a month, well worth the sanity it provides. Kidoodle.TV is also hosting a seriously awesome giveaway: try Kidoodle.TV through the month of December and you’ll be entered to win 1 of 10 tablets or 1 of 10 yearlong subscriptions to Kidoodle.TV!

GIVEAWAY – Discovery Gateway Passes! #livewelldgm

Are your kids crazy about the Discovery Gateway Museum? My kids love it there! I love it because it’s a totally hands-on, educational play place where your kids are encouraged to touch and explore everything.

This week, I had the opportunity to see a sneak peek of Discovery Gateway Museum’s newest installation. Discovery Gateway has created an amazing Primary Children’s Hospital Emergency Department exhibit, including the beloved Life Flight helicopter!

Primary Children's Hospital at Discovery Gateway

The entire exhibit is designed to encourage kids to go through the entire hospital experience. Your child can man the Life Flight control tower, play pilot and pick up a patient (a “radio” gives the scenario–one of a number of common childhood accidents–and how to best care for the patient), practice checking in patients, dress up as the doctor, ‘xray’ bones, and even scrub up for surgery!

Surgery? Oh yes! Discovery Gateway has teamed with some amazing developers to create a one-of-a-kind iPad app so your child can preform several different surgeries over a pretend patient! (They are hoping to put this on the App Store soon!)

If your child has a scheduled hospital visit, is frequently sick, or just a bit on the clumsy side, this exhibit is a perfect way to act out any fears or concerns your child may have!

I was happy to hear that the museum is accommodating towards both public and home school field trips. Lesson plans will be available online soon for teachers/parents who want to get the most out of their trip to the museum.

This Saturday, the brand new exhibit will be fully up and running. In celebration of the museum’s 35th anniversary, tickets will be on sale for their 35th anniversary this Saturday for only $3.50 per person! In addition, their memberships will be on sale both at the museum and online for $35 off the cost of membership! The museum will open early for members (9 a.m.) and 11 a.m. for nonmembers. For more information, call the museum at (801) 456-5437 or visit!

Additionally, I am giving away a family pass to Discovery Gateway!

Slacker Mom Goes Shopping

Shop at Macy's

Disclaimer: Disclaimer: As part of the Macy’s Advisory Board I was compensated for this post. All opinions are my own.

Would you be surprised if I told you how much I detest clothing shopping? I’m a certified shopaholic, yet setting aside time each day for clothing for myself fills me with depression and terror. I can spend hours online picking out the perfect curriculum, and I look forward to back-to-school shopping for my kids each year. Stepping into a department store to hunt down the perfect ensemble, or try on the best fit of jeans, seems overwhelming. Facing a tiny dressing room with stacks of clothes to try as I get undressed in front of a mirror isn’t exactly high on my list of things to do in life.

Recently I was asked to shop at Macy’s to give a real mom’s opinion of the store. I had up until that point, owned two items from my local Cottonwood Macy’s (so dubbed because it is the only remnant of the former Cottonwood Mall.) The two items I own are two Lladro statues my husband has given me; one for our first Valentine’s Day and the second was this one I had casually mentioned would make a perfect wedding cake topper–he gave that one to me when he proposed. :)

For some reason, I had it in my head that Macy’s was an expensive store. As I strolled the aisles, I noticed a couple of things: these clothes were actually affordable and in my budget! (Especially when paired with their frequent coupons like these!) Second, I noted that I could actually bring my kids here. Unlike other Macy’s or other department stores, Cottonwood is unlikely to be crowded even on a Saturday. I guess the demise of an attached mall will do that to a store. It was one of those places your kids can run around or hide in the clothing racks (please tell me mine aren’t the only ones that do that?!) and you don’t have to panic thinking you’ve actually lost your children.

In general, Macy’s was easy to navigate, and the store clerks are happy to help you find what you need. This time I was in need of new bras and a trained sales associate gave me a free fitting and spent nearly an hour helping me pick and choose between all the different styles available. You can even get a free personal shopper appointment if you struggle to decide what looks best on you like I do!

I’m not sure I’m going to transform into a fashionista anytime soon… but it’s nice to know Macy’s is available to meet my budget and help me figure out my own personal style!

How do you feel about clothing shopping for yourself?

Recently I had the opportunity to participate in a review for Cascade Platinum Pacs, a nifty ‘all-in-one’ dishwashing detergent. I’m not a fan of doing the dishes (it’s almost the worst chore ever, except for laundry, which is the worst), so my ears perked up at the claims:

  • Powers away tough, 24 hour stuck-on food
  • Eliminates the need to pre-wash dishes
  • Helps maintain the look of new machines and helps prevent additional hard-water
  • Delivers exceptional dishware shine

Eliminates the need to pre-wash dishes? Hmm. My kids have no qualms about shoving plates in the dishwasher till smeared with ranch dressing and spaghetti sauce. In my aging crappy dishwasher, this has always led to a second wash and a severe “you must rinse the dishes first!” lecture. I have never not rinsed my dishes because as much as I hate the dishes (and I really, really do hate doing the dishes), I know that neglecting the pre-wash will result in nasty dishes.

Imagine my surprise when the new Cascade Platinum Pacs actually worked, thanks to their triple acting formula. It worked on the spaghetti sauce, it worked on the container of leftovers that had been in the fridge way too long (scraped off then placed in the dishwasher), and it almost worked on that big gob of peanut butter on a spoon someone tossed in to wash. {Okay, it was me.} The glasses were shiny and for the first time I realized how not shiny they had been previously. Even the peanut butter coated spoon was nearly streak free. Did I mention I even ran my dishwasher on the lightest cycle? I tend to migrate towards the cheapy dishwasher detergent, but I’m seriously considering switching. Something that makes loading the dishes less of a chore is well worth the cost. This detergent is totally slacker mom approved!

Cascade is hosting an Instagram contest! If you’re on Instagram (and you should be!), you’ll definitely want to check it out. The grand prize is a kitchen makeover! Go here to register and see all the details.

Arm & Hammer Tooth Tunes Review – #ToothTunes1D #spon

Arm & Hammer Tooth Tunes One Direction Toothbrush

My kids recently went to the dentist after a *ahem* rather long period of not going to the dentist. Not surprisingly, we are newly committed to their dental hygiene after remembering just how much those cavities cost to fill. It was perfect timing that I was asked to review the Arm & Hammer Tooth Tunes One Direction toothbrush!

IMG_9521 copy

This toothbrush rocks – literally! The toothbrush we were sent to review plays its own song as your child brushes. To hear the whole song, they need to brush for exactly two minutes. (Hmm, isn’t that convenient?) My daughter loved rocking out to one of her favorite songs, One Thing by One Direction, as she brushed her teeth. Standing next to her, the music is fairly quiet but the sound actually travels through her teeth to her head. Like me, she can’t hear the music well unless she’s brushing her teeth. The Tooth Tunes website offers this explanation:

From the makers of the #1 kids battery toothbrushes, ARM & HAMMER™ Tooth Tunes™ features one of a kind Music in Your Mouth™ technology. This proprietary technology streams sound vibrations from the bristles of the toothbrush through the teeth, allowing kids to hear the music while they brush.

Tooth Tunes removes any battle associated with brushing their teeth. Whether you struggle with getting your child to brush her teeth at all, or simply can’t get her to brush for two entire minutes, this toothbrush takes those issues away. If your child isn’t a fan of One Direction, there are tons of other songs to choose from, including artists like Hot Chelle Ray and Queen.
