Perspective {slacker style}

I picked up my cute little nieces the other morning to watch for a few hours while my older kids are in school. They are just older than my two (four and two; my girls are three and one), so it makes for a noisy, dramatic, fun day. It also gives me a little more free time as they entertain each other.

That morning, as I rolled out of bed in need of a shower, but far too late to take one, I made the bold decision to leave the house as-is. I try to at least wear jeans for the school drop off on the chance that I need to exit the car for some reason (i.e., Rebecca leaves her backpack in the car). I knew if I took the effort to get dressed, I wouldn’t take the effort to get undressed later to get into the shower.
{Don’t judge, it’s a lot of work, and I have like, a lot of kids.}

Fortunately, I didn’t need to get out of the car at the school, so I made the short drive to my sister-in-law’s house. My sister-in-law is gorgeous, and super talented. She’s the lady behind:

a fabulous boutique that I’ll be doing a giveaway with as soon as I reach 100 likers on Facebook! So I was feeling a little self conscious as I walked up to her door.

She opened the door and laughed.

Okay, but she laughed because I wasn’t all dressed up at 8:30 in the morning, as I usually (attempt) to be. She and her husband, who works from home, were still in pajamas. Apparently she was excited to see me not make the effort!

Isn’t that funny? The few extra minutes I spend on the mornings I pick her kids up, putting on a little mascara and maybe (oooh!) foundation, make her feel bad because she’s still in her pajamas. Had I not needed to leave my house and knew I would be interacting with an adult human, I wouldn’t have gotten dressed for hours! And makeup is doubtful at any time of day. I’m always so worried about impressing others, but sometimes it’s nice to know people like me even though they know I’m a mess of an adult!

What about you? Do you work harder than you need to {or should?} at impressing others? And hello, don’t you want to win a fabulous goodie from Delectable Designs?

    I only get dressed up in nice shirts if we’re going somewhere. I ran every morning, so it’s not an option to not take a shower. However there are many times I’ve showed up to preschool or dance class with my hair still wet from just getting out of the shower.

    I will admit the times you pick up the girls and it is going on 9:00 am and they are only dressed cause you are taking them and I am always still in my pajamas I feel like the slacker mom whereas you have 4 kids dressed, fed and out the door on time to school and you look fabulous! Yes it did feel good to see you still in your pajamas just the same as me :)

    • Lol dressed, fed, and out the door? Sorta… please refer to the post on getting places on time. IE, who cares if they haven’t eaten? They know they need to MOVE if they want food. Plus half of my kids can dress themselves AND their sisters, so that helps. A lot. :D
