And man, do I have laundry to do.
Not that I did any of it. I ran out of ADHD medicine and then I “ADD’ed” getting more (the term in my family when you just didn’t do something) so today was pretty crappy.
But that’s okay, you know why? Because we have funny pancakes. Or rather, you do. I made these a couple weeks ago so we don’t actually have any funny pancakes. Ooh, but I do have bacon… I can see funny pancakes in my near future.
Man, do I need my medicine asap.
Anyway, this is just a silly little idea. I did it for St. Patty’s day, hence the freakishly green hue, but you can do this, tinted or otherwise, any day of the year. Because funny pancakes make you happy. Or at least they make the kids happy, but they’ll probably make you pretty happy too.
Here’s what you’ll need:
watered down pancake batter
(it should be a little on the runny side, almost like crepe batter)
a squeeze bottle
(like one of those ketchup bottles that are red)
(I found mine at Bakers Cash & Carry in Murray, but it’s not red, and not actually for ketchup, either.)
That’s it! Well, and other pancake making paraphernalia such as a griddle, butter, syrup, etc. A spatula helps too, and this post will assume you’re working with one. :) By the way, these are not the pancakes to fill with plump blueberries or bananas. Just old school buttermilk, if you please.
Using your squeeze bottle, draw a shape on a hot, buttered griddle or frying pan.
Let it sit for a seconds on the pan. You want it to start firming up. I would say 30 seconds to about a minute. If you wait too long though, the outline of your design won’t stick to your pancake. Experimentation is key here.
Now fill your cute little pancake shape with your watered down pancake mix. I used a measuring cup with a pour spout to fill the pancakes, but whatever works. Go slowly, as it’s easy to overfill.
Or color outside the lines. Crap. Try again!
Once your pancake is starting to bubble, use your spatula and flip it over. See how easy that was? But the best part is you can get really creative…
What kid doesn’t want to eat their own face for breakfast??
Of course, this is actually an artistic representation of my husband…
but I can’t draw.
Maybe you’ll have better luck?
If you try this, please let me know! I’d love to add some of your designs to this post!
